Day 2 — He Knows the Depth of It

“You have taken account of my miseries; Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?”
—Psalm 56:8

No one else knows the full weight of it. They may see your strength, your survival, your ability to keep moving forward. But they don’t see the nights you collapse inside. They don’t hear the words you never speak. They don’t know the ache that lingers beneath the surface. But God does.

The psalmist says that God records every tear. He doesn’t just comfort the broken—He counts the pain. He takes account of your miseries. Not one sorrow is lost to Him. Not one moment of despair passes by unnoticed. What others forget, God remembers. What others miss, He gathers. And what others dismiss, He weighs with perfect care.

God is not weary of your lament. He is not impatient with your sadness. He is not confused by your emotions. He created your tears. And He bottles them.

When the sorrow is fresh, we cry easily. When the sorrow is old, we sometimes stop crying—but the pain remains. We may try to numb it. We may try to explain it away. We may feel guilty for feeling it still. But God doesn’t treat you that way. He knows what loss has cost you. He knows what was taken, what was broken, and what you hoped would be different.

There is comfort in knowing that your grief is not wasted. The God who sees every injustice also sees every tear. And in Christ, He promises a day when sorrow will be no more. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be mourning, or crying, or pain” (Revelation 21:4).

But until then, He does not rush your healing. He meets you in it.

Reflection Questions:

  • What pain have you been carrying alone, assuming that no one — not even God — truly knows the depth of it?
  • How does it change your grief to know that God has not merely noticed your sorrow but gathered every tear into His keeping?
  • What would it mean to bring your oldest, quietest grief to God today — without editing it first?

Suggested Prayer:

*Lord, You have counted every tear I thought went unseen—I surrender the grief I have carried alone, and I ask You to meet me inside it.*
