Day 24 — Held in the Breaking

“The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the
everlasting arms…”

Deuteronomy 33:27

There are moments when life breaks you so deeply, you wonder if you’ll ever feel whole again. Not just disappointed—but dismantled. Not just wounded—but undone. Something in you gives way, and you’re not even sure what’s left to stand on.

But even there—underneath all of it—are arms.

Not just sympathetic thoughts or distant promises. Everlasting arms. The kind that don’t shake when everything else does. The kind that don’t let go when you fall apart. The kind that were always there, even when you didn’t feel them.

This verse doesn’t say God always prevents the fall. It says He catches what breaks.

You may feel like you’re in freefall right now—emotionally, relationally, spiritually. You’ve lost control. You’ve lost your bearings. But you have not lost Him. And He has not lost you.

Moses spoke these words to Israel at the end of his life. They were about to enter a land full of battles. He would not be going with them. But he left them with this: “The eternal God is your refuge.” That word refuge means dwelling place, shelter, a place to collapse in safety. Not when you’re strong—but when you’ve run out of strength.

And that’s the gospel: not that God waits for you to climb back up—but that He holds you as you break.

He holds the heart that just found out the diagnosis.\

He holds the mother who just buried her child.\

He holds the man who just lost everything to his own failure.\

He holds the woman shattered by betrayal.\

He holds you—right now—not just eventually, but underneath the weight that you can’t carry anymore.

You may not understand the breaking. But you don’t have to fall through it alone.

There are everlasting arms beneath your grief. Beneath your exhaustion. Beneath your regrets. They are not growing tired. They are not withdrawing. They are not conditional.

Let yourself fall—not into despair, but into Him.

Cross-References:

  • “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Psalm 46:1

  • “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
  • “Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Reflection Questions:

  • What part of your life feels like it has collapsed beneath you?
  • Have you been trying to hold yourself together instead of falling into the arms of God?
  • How does Deuteronomy 33:27 reshape the way you view your lowest moments?

Suggested Prayer:

*Father, I am in freefall and I do not know what is left to stand on—I stop trying to catch myself, and I trust that Your everlasting arms are already underneath.*
