We spend most of our lives trying not to break. We hide the pain. We power through the weakness. We interpret brokenness as failure—and failure as disqualification.
But God sees it differently.
He draws near to the brokenhearted. Not the self-sufficient. Not the proud. Not the ones who act like they have it all together. **The broken.** The ones who’ve run out of strength. The ones who’ve stopped pretending. The ones who are crushed in spirit—and can’t lift themselves.
That’s who He saves.
This doesn’t mean God celebrates pain. It means He meets us inside it. He’s not attracted to our suffering. He’s near to our surrender. The people who get God’s attention aren’t the polished. They’re the poor in spirit. The ones who bring nothing but need—and find Him there. The world says blessing is found in success. In control. In the upward climb.
But the Bible says blessing is found in the collapse that turns toward Christ.
Jesus didn’t say, “Blessed are the whole.” He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit… Blessed are those who mourn… Blessed are the gentle” (Matthew 5:3–5). In His kingdom, the broken aren’t cast out—they’re brought close.
And it’s not because of what they’ve done. It’s because of what they’ve lost—and who they’ve turned to in the aftermath.
You may not see your brokenness as a blessing right now. But what if it’s the very thing that positions you for grace?
The Lord doesn’t despise the crushed. He doesn’t flinch at the damage. He doesn’t grow weary of your need. He comes near. And when He saves the crushed in spirit, it’s not always through reversal. Sometimes it’s through redemption in the ruin.
The cross itself was the ultimate picture of brokenness turned to blessing. A sinless man, crushed under the weight of judgment—so that the guilty could be brought near. So that you, in your lowest place, could be lifted.
Your brokenness is not the end. It may be the beginning of blessing.
