“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4)
Suffering can feel isolating, as if no one could possibly understand what you’re going through. But in Christ, even our most painful seasons are not wasted. God not only uses them to draw us closer to Him—He also equips us through them to be vessels of His comfort to others.
Paul calls God “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” This comfort is not simply an emotional boost; it’s the deep assurance of His presence, His promises, and His care in the middle of our pain. And He gives it to us “in all our affliction”—not just after it ends.
But notice the purpose: “so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction.” The comfort God gives you is not meant to stop with you. It’s meant to be passed on. The empathy you gain from your own wounds becomes a bridge to someone else’s heart. Your testimony of God’s faithfulness becomes hope for another weary soul.
This is not to say we should minimize our own suffering or rush to “make it worth something.” Rather, as God tends to us in our pain, we can stay open to how He might later use that experience to minister to others. Sometimes the very thing you wish had never happened becomes the very thing God uses to help someone else see Him more clearly.

Prayer Prompt
Lord, thank You for meeting me in my affliction with Your mercy and comfort. Help me to see opportunities to extend that same comfort to others, so they too may know Your faithfulness.
