Day 13: Gratitude for God’s Word

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105

Thankfulness thrives when it is rooted in truth. And the clearest, surest source of truth God has given us is His Word. The Bible is not just a sacred book—it is a personal gift. It is the voice of God, preserved and given so we might know Him, trust Him, follow Him, and thank Him.

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, and its entire theme is a celebration of God’s Word. It’s filled with longing, reverence, and joy—not just in what Scripture says, but in what it does. It corrects. It comforts. It convicts. It guides. And here in verse 105, the psalmist declares that God’s Word is light in the dark.

That’s not poetic exaggeration—it’s lived experience. In a world of shifting values, cultural confusion, and personal uncertainty, the Word of God provides something immovable. A lamp. A guide. A fixed reference point when everything else feels unstable. Gratitude for God’s Word isn’t sentimental—it’s essential.

Without it, we’re lost. Without it, we trust our own instincts, follow our emotions, or imitate the crowd. But with it, we are anchored. With it, we are warned and comforted, shaped and sanctified. And every time we open it, we are encountering a grace we did not earn.

How often do we treat the Bible as a burden? How often do we ignore its availability or rush through its pages? But this book—this living Word—is a miracle. It is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16), preserved through generations, translated into our language, and placed into our hands. Millions in history longed for what we have. Are we thankful?

Gratitude for Scripture does not mean we always feel inspired when we read it. It means we value it even when we don’t. We treasure it as the light we need, even when the path is steep or the terrain unclear. And we go to it—not just for information, but for transformation.

In seasons of joy, God’s Word reminds us of the Giver. In seasons of pain, it reminds us of His promises. In confusion, it gives clarity. In temptation, it gives strength. And in every moment, it reveals the heart and mind of the God who never changes.

God could have left us in the dark. But He didn’t. He gave us His Word—not to impress us, but to shepherd us. And if we understand what we’ve received, we will not just study it. We will thank Him for it.
